A Brief History of Fortin Steel…
1978
Jean-Yves Fortin founded the company under the name Jean-Yves Fortin Soudure Inc, a small general welding shop at Cap-St-Ignace.
1981
The company grows and moves to Montmagny’s industrial district in a new 5000 sq. ft. building. It manufactures metal works, all types of trailer and even a 45-foot boat (a steel boat, of course).
1984
Steelwork manufacturing for commercial buildings. The company specializes in work requiring the “sandblast” and becomes a major subcontractor for Bombardier at La Pocatière.
The company grows with the years and expands its facilities to handle ever more sophisticated projects.
1990
The company begins structural steel fabricating as a subcontractor for many partners. This takes an ever greater proportion of our production capacity.
1999 et 2000
Major technological milestone reached with the acquisition of CNC equipments, including a three-spindle Drill Line , an Angle Master and an FPB1800 Punch Plate.
After several expansions, the company’s production surface reaches 50,000 sq. ft., plus a 27,000 sq. ft. warehouse extension.
2005
In January, the company receives AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction) quality certification.
1 Mars 2007
Jean-Yves Fortin passes the torch to Richard Gagné, selling him 100% of the shares in the company. Mr. Gagné, an engineer graduate, had been working in the company for 20 years, having joined it in 1988.
2009
Jean-Yves Fortin Soudure Inc. changes its corporate name to Fortin Steel Inc.
2010….
